Orange Tiramisu: welcome to episode 3 of my Sips & Sweets series, where I make desserts inspired by drinks.
In today’s episode, we are making this delicious Orange Tiramiaus inspired by an Orange Creamsicle!
Here’s what you need to make this at home:
Ingredients:
Orange Curd:
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
- 3 eggs
- 1 orange zest
Orange Mascarpone Cream:
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz mascarpone
- 1 orange zest
- 1 tsp orange extract
- 1/3 cup orange curd
Orange Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 oranges
Other:
- 24 ladyfingers/ 1 pack of ladyfingers
Instructions
Orange Curd:
For the orange curd, I used this lemon curd recipe and switched out the lemons for oranges. Recipe here
Orange Simple Syrup
- In a saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and oranges, and stir until well mixed.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the sugar is fully dissolved. After the sugar has dissolved, mash the oranges into the syrup.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the syrup to separate the oranges.
- Transfer the syrup into a container and enjoy!
Orange Tiramisu:
- In a double boiler, combine the egg yolks and granulated sugar. Mix for about 3 minutes, until the mixture turns pale yellow and the granulated sugar is no longer felt.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream and mascarpone cheese until they are well blended. Then, add this mixture to the egg yolk mixture, along with the orange curd, orange zest, and orange extract. Continue mixing until stiff peaks form. Set aside until ready to use.
- To assemble the tiramisu, lightly dip the ladyfingers into the orange syrup and arrange them in the pan. Spread a layer of the mascarpone cream filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat the process, alternating layers of dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone filling, finishing with a layer of mascarpone cream topped with orange curd.
- Chill the assembled tiramisu in the fridge for at least 8 hours; for the best results, chill it overnight.
- Before serving, garnish with blood orange slices or edible flowers of your choice. If using toxic flowers, ensure they are wrapped in foil or flower tape before inserting them into the dessert.
Enjoy!
