Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich

In this series of trying new things, I typically don’t go for hot sandwiches, but I wanted to try something new. This classic combination of honey and hot sauce in the sandwich was so good that the sandwich was gone within minutes. I couldn’t stop eating it after one bite.

The chicken filet on the toasted semi-sweet Brioche bun I made the other day helped tie this sandwich together, along with other things like the lettuce slaw and the pickles.

Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 cups Buttermilk
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • cup Pickle juice

Chicken Fillet

  • 2 cups All purpose flour
  • 1 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • 1 tbsp Ground Thyme
  • ½ tbsp Chili powder
  • 2 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Ground mustard
  • 1 tsp White Pepper
  • 1.45 pound Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast (Butterfly or half the chicken breast to the size of your liking)

Hot honey sauce

  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup hot sauce of choice (louisiana hot sauce)

Sandwich Combination

  • 1 Brioche Bun
  • 3 Pickle slices

Lettuce slaw

  • 1 Chopped lettuce
  • 2 tbsp Mayo
Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix buttermilk, minced garlic, paprika, and pickle juice. Add the cut up chicken breasts to the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  • In a shallow dish, combine all-purpose flour, panko breadcrumbs, paprika, ground thyme, chili powder, garlic powder, white pepper, salt and ground mustard. Remove chicken from marinade and dredge each piece in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
  • Once coated fry your chicken cutlets into a small batch of oil in a shallow frying pan
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per side. Transfer cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil, or bake at 425 for 15 minutes.
  • While the chicken is cooking, prepare the hot honey sauce by combining honey and hot sauce and set aside.
  • To assemble the sandwiches, place the chicken fillet on the bottom half of each brioche bun. Brush the chicken generously with hot honey sauce. Top with pickle slices and lettuce slaw.
  • Place the top half of the brioche bun over the filling to complete the sandwich.
  • Enjoy!

Just letting you know the chicken breast amount is not on the recipe. I can pretty much make my own idea of how much to use but incase others were wondering!
